Exxon, Phillip Morris Revealed In Plot To Falsify Science - In an unprecedented step, the Royal Society, Britain’s premier scientific academy, has written to the oil giant to demand that the company withdraws support for dozens of groups that have “misrepresented the science of climate change by outright denial of the evidence.” But wait, there’s more: according to Slashdot.com, the Guardian has also reported that Phillip Morris is most responsible for the scheme, and recently published an excerpt from the new book “Heat” by George Monbiot. In the book, Monbiot outlines a web of fake citizens’ groups and bogus (but authoritative-sounding) research institutes designed to convince laypeople that human causation of global warming is scientifically controversial. From the Guardian article: “What I have discovered while researching this issue is that the corporate funding of lobby groups denying that man-made climate change is taking place was initiated not by Exxon, or by any other firm directly involved in the fossil fuel industry. It was started by the tobacco company Philip Morris.”

You could characterize this show- popularized by Napster in the 1999s/early 2000s- as the songwriter’s quintessential recording. For many, this show sealed the deal regarding Tweedy’s greatness, and solo tour attendees still half-hope for a performance like this.
