2006, Touch & Go
The name Black Heart Procession does not give you the warm, fuzzy feeling that this is going to be the feelgood album of the year.
Thankfully, we have Fergie for that ignoble achievement. This, on the other hand, is neither light-hearted, nor so sad that tissues are required. Rather, it is a dark album—like a Spell, as the title implies.
These guys are a strange band, steeped in a Bell Witch Americana that is very bewitching indeed. As an aside, I initially checked these guys out because of their involvement in Ugly Casanova, thinking I would hear some Modest Mouse-like sounds. Oh no. It was a very different trip, but one worth taking.
