Kay Kay And His Weathered Underground made an interesting choice, to release a debut album as a live album, claiming on tape that you are doing it as a “free sort of thing over the internet,” and then releasing it as a two-disc CD/DVD package.
If it were any other album, I would probably make fun of it for this. But there is no denying that this album is great.
Live From The Pretty Parlor kicks off with its best song, the difficult-to-classify “Hey Momma.” It starts out as a somewhat Beatlesesque rock song that halfway through, turns into a ragtime tune with a prevalent horns section. Later, it turns into a more bluesy piece.
Kay Kay And His Weathered Underground is a side project of Gatsby’s American Dream(best name ever)’s Kirk Huffman and Kyle O’Quin. I look forward to their first proper album with high expectations.
