Tortoise on the Move, ‘Ancestorship’ Drops 6/23 (MP3s)

Tortoise

Hot on the heels of re-releasing a bunch of classic albums on vinyl, Chicago post-rockers Tortoise will extrude Beacons of Ancestorship, their sixth full-length album and first new music in five years, on June 23rd. I’ve been listening to my vinyl copies of TNT and Standards pretty much non-stop since I got them, but now I’m ready for more.

According to Tortoise’s motherlabel Thrill Jockey Records, “The band has once again recast the mold and crafted an album that defies categorization and expectations and yet remains definitively the work of Tortoise.”

They’ve also offered up some MP3s for your consumption: “Prepare Your Coffin” and “High Class Slim Floatin’ In”. Check ‘em out. And in case you were wondering, the new album is really freakin’ good. I haven’t listened to it yet, but is that really so important?

Brief, hopefully to-be-expanded tour dates after the jump.

May 29 – Buffalo, NY – Tralf Music Hall
May 30 – Brooklyn, NY – The Bell House
May 31 – New York, NY – World Financial Center
Jul 17 – Chicago, IL – Pitchfork Music Festival
