Harper Simon, son of Paul, will be touring the West this winter to prove that genius doesn’t skip a generation. The younger Simon’s West Coast/Left Coast tour starts with a solo show (opening for none other than Brian Wilson, who has somehow not yet transformed into pure energy), after which he’ll kick off a slew of full-band gigs with a show at San Diego’s beloved Casbah on December 7.
Members of Simon’s band include luminaries Mike Bloom (The Elected) and Dave Scher (Jenny Lewis) on guitar, Erik Paparazzi (Cat Power) on bass, Money Mark (Beastie Boys) on keyboards, Russell Simins (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) on drums, and The Chapin Sisters (The Chapin Sisters) on vocals. With a band that big, it’s safe to say the one sound you won’t be hearing will be silence.
Rolling Stone has called Simon’s self-titled debut album,”A gorgeous collection of vintage-sounding country-folk tunes.” For a taste, check out this MP3 of his excellent song “Shooting Star” (no, it’s not an Elliott Smith cover).
