MP3: The New Kinetics – “Riffle Raff”
As an Owl and Bear reader, you might like rock, but chances are you don’t live under one.
So, being a superterranean San Diegan with any working combination of eyes and/or ears, you’re probably aware of SoundDiego‘s monthly live parties. The list of performers at past events has been a veritable who’s-who of San Diego’s music elite, and on any given night you can find yourself rubbing elbows with local luminaries like 91X’s Robin Roth, 94/9′s Tim Pyles, and SD: Dialed In’s Rosemary Bystrak.
February is now upon us, and since February is an officially recognized month in the Gregorian calendar (fun fact: there are 12 “months” in all), that means there’s another SoundDiego Live event coming up — and boy is it a special one. “But wait,” we can hear you asking yourself, “aren’t all SounDiego Live events are special?” They are indeed, but this month’s event is officially Extra-Special™ because it’s being programmed by your friendly neighborhood Owl and Bear.
Here’s the skinny: On February 23, get thee to the Til-Two Club for a night of amazing local music. The Beautiful View will be headlining with their high-octane brand of rock and roll. The band just released its debut LP, life is beautiful, via Requiemme Records, and you can download the opening track, “The Horseman,” above.
The Beautiful View will be supported by the raw power of local four-piece The New Kinetics, whose stunning debut Contact recently made our prestigious Best Albums of 2011 list. For a taste of what to expect from this exciting band, do yourself a favor and listen to the red-hot track “Riffle Raff” (also above).
Finally, because no SoundDiego Live event would be complete without its “Garage to Glory” competition, two up-and-coming bands — Subsurfer and Uniform Victor — will be slugging it out for a chance to be the opening act. Beginning on February 8, you can view videos of each band and vote for your favorite on SoundDiego’s Facebook page. The winner will be there on February 23 to show you what they’ve got.
And because we know you’re not just the aforementioned, possibly random assortment of eyes and ears, we’ll have plenty of food and drink to keep your stomach happy too. Get there at 7p.m. for a VIP Happy Hour sponsored by Jack Daniel’s, with support from Mission Brewery and the Til-Two Club. Returning host Robin Roth will be on hand to make sure we drink every last drop of that whiskey. You can RSVP for the event here.
