Evil Dead San Diego screening

San Diego, have we got a treat for you.

Horror fans around the world are waiting with baited breath for the release of Evil Dead, the fantastic-looking remake of the classic 1981 Sam Raimi film of the same name. And while they’ll all have to wait until the film is released on April 5, you loyal Owl and Bear fans will get to enjoy all the gory goodness a few days early.

A special advance screening of Evil Dead will be held on April 2 at 7:00pm at Edwards Mira Mesa. As a reward to you, our beloved readers, we’re giving out 25 specially designated “admit two” passes to the screening. To claim your pass, click here.

It’s hard to overstate the original Evil Dead‘s importance in the horror genre. The quintessential “cabin in the woods” movie and its sequels launched Sam Raimi’s and Bruce Campbell’s careers as well as an undead army of cinematic imitators. And while horror remakes tend to fall in the “horrible” to “almost tolerable” realm of the enjoyment spectrum, Fede Alvarez’s version appears primed to be the rare remake that outdoes the original. Lending the remake further credibility, original creators Raimi, Campbell, and Robert Tapert produced the new version. For a taste of what to expect, turn out the lights and check out the gruesome red-band trailer below.

So don’t miss what looks to be the horror movie event of the year. You’ll need to set up a free GoFobo account in order to claim your pass, but seeing as how that’ll let you opt in for future exclusive screenings, it seems like quite the bargain to us. Once again, this is only open to the first 25 pairs of people who claim their passes. So hurry, because chances are this giveaway will be dead by dawn… (See what we did there?) Click here for passes.
