It was an all San Diego showcase at the Belly Up on November 1, with Sacco opening up for Delta Spirit on the last day of the band’s North American tour.

Delta Spirit has been described as a folk-inspired rock band, but even those looking for folk at this show you would’ve probably had their Birkenstocks knocked off! The wave of rock and roll began suddenly with their new single “From Now On” and didn’t stop until their anthemic closer, “People, Turn Around.” Even slower ballads like “Yamaha” turned into cardiac exercises, starting with a digital drum track and ending with a full band build-up that was strikingly different than the dirgy album version.

The Belly Up crowd loved the show; my two takeaways were that Delta Spirit rocked hard and they had a lot of fun doing so. Maybe it was the hometown audience—but more likely, Delta Spirit is a group of guys that love what they do.
