I always struggled to get into Nirvana. I liked their Unplugged album, but I knew Nirvana wasn’t about the acoustic sound, so I never considered myself a fan. This DVD, though, is something to watch. It’s crazy how Kurt Cobain can go from mumbling tonelessly into the mic to showing that he can truly sing with an amazing, supernatural growl.

Super Bowl Sunday 2008 has come to a close, and football fans everywhere are feeling the comedown of having no reason to live for the next six months. Seriously, though, who cares about the game? To bloggers, the important thing wasn’t the major upset for the winningest team in 36 years (I still don’t know why the entire New England region gets its own team), but the suckiness of the commercials and Tom Petty. Patriots fans must really be feeling like shit right now—even the commercials let them down.
I am struck by this. We’re talking about a) Commercials and b) Tom Petty. Our society has truly come to a strange crossroads when we expect anything other than passive, low-level enjoyment from either of these enterprises.

Sufjan Stevens
October 13, 2006
I haven’t heard too much from Sufjan Stevens lately. Greetings From Michigan was a great album, but frankly SevenSwans was a tad too religious, and I just couldn’t get into his album about Illinois. This set looks prety good, though. He sounds a little tired when he starts to sing on “Sister,” but then he kicks in with his request for the audience to refer to him as “The Majesty Songbird” for the duration of the show.
