Download: Dawes – “When My Time Comes” (M4A)

On November 27 at The Casbah, Dawes will celebrate the end of their epic fall tour. We can’t wait to see them, and we can’t wait to give away two tickets to the show.

The L.A. indie rockers released their debut album, North Hills, about a year ago, and it has received rave reviews across the board. Rolling Stone called them “Rookies of the Year,” Paste called them “Best of What’s Next,” and Daytrotter declared North Hills “hands down one of the finest records of 2009.” It can’t hurt that Wilco heartthrob Pat Sansone appears on the release. They also recently recorded a live session with The Morning Benders (see above).

We’re offering two tickets to see Dawes at the Casbah on 11/27. To enter the contest, just comment below and include your email address in the form (your email won’t be visible to the public). The winner will be chosen at random on November 24, 2010. Full list of Dawes tour dates is below.

The Morning Benders – ‘All Day Day Light’ (Video)

The Morning Benders just released the handclap-heavy video for “All Day Day Light,” the latest single from their well-received album, Big Echo. As directed by Jack Ferry, the clip’s concept is simple yet elegant, showing the band playing as the seasons rapidly change around them. Given The Morning Benders’ whirlwind year, that intense passage of time is surely something they can relate to.

As 2010 barrels to a close, the band is showing no signs of letting up. They’ve got a slew of tour dates on their schedule, including a stop at the Belly Up on October 13th. The full list of dates can be found below. Continue reading…

Interview: The Morning Benders

The Morning Benders are still coming down from the success of Talking Through Tin Cans, their 2008 album that earned them Alternative/Indie Album of the Year on iTunes.

For their sophomore effort, they have teamed up with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear to create Big Echo. Taylor’s fingerprints are all over the album; instead of three-minute pop songs, the band has opted for more sprawl and experimentation. The result is a more mature album, both in its lyrics and musical composition.

The band is currently trekking across the country on a tour that includes a stop at The Casbah on March 26th. We recently had a chance to catch up with singer/guitarist Chris Chu to discuss what it was like working with Chris Taylor, and what we can expect from the new tunes. Continue reading

The Morning Benders Make ‘Promises’ You Can Keep (MP3)

If youthful exuberance were a baseball bat and pitch perfect pop songs were candy, The Morning Benders would be a ruptured piñata. The Berkeley, California natives are gearing up for a big 2010 that includes a new LP—Big Echo, out on March 9th through Rough Trade—and a headlining tour in support of the album.

On March 26th, they’ll be joined by opening act Miniature Tigers for an evening of indie pop goodness at San Diego’s dearly beloved Casbah. If you haven’t had a chance to hear The Morning Benders, we just so happen to have a fresh MP3 download for their new single, “Promises”. View the complete list of tour dates after the jump.
