British rock band Muse kicked off the first night of their new tour in San Diego last Monday.

The band brought out an elaborate LED stage setup, with the audience seated on all sides of a large bowl shaped riser. Video, lights, strobes, and lasers all blended seamlessly with the band’s aggressive rhythms, pounding bass, and shrieking electric guitar.

Guitarist Matthew Bellamy, bassist Christopher Wolstenholme, and drummer Dominic Howard put on a very high energy show with many cuts from their 2012 album, The 2nd Law. The band also played classics like “Knights of Cydonia,” “Hysteria,” and “Starlight.”

At one point, a giant roulette wheel appeared across the stage’s many video screens with several song choices available. The virtual ball fell into a slot for “Stockholm Syndrome,” off of 2003’s Absolution, and the crowd went crazy. Several encore songs were well received and left the crowd chanting for more.
