If you read Owl and Bear often — and really, why wouldn’t you — you’ve probably noticed that we’re big fans of Soft Lions.

These San Diegans first appeared on our radar a year ago with the release of their debut EP, No Peace. They held our attention with their live shows, quickly establishing themselves as one of the local scene’s most reliably awesome performers. And in June, they upped the ante with the release of their terrific second EP, Earth Energy.

So yeah, we’re fans of Soft Lions. In fact, we’re such big fans that our own managing editor, Chris Maroulakos, went and directed their latest music video.

The clip in question is for “Soft as Lions,” the jaunty second track off Earth Energy and the song that inspired the band’s name. It was filmed partly in scenic Descanso, CA and partly on San Diego’s slightly less scenic El Cajon Blvd. The video finds the trio meeting up in the mountains for a jam session and to enjoy some mysterious blue beverages, lollipops, and vampire teeth. You know, the usual.

So, without further ado, we’re proud to present the premiere of Soft Lions’ video for “Soft as Lions.” We hope you enjoy it!
