Husband-and-wife team Mates of State made a stop at the House of Blues on Friday. Lackluster ticket sales resulted in the band being downgraded to the venue’s smaller Fifth Avenue Side Stage, but that didn’t stop Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel from knocking out an endless succession of high-energy, infection anthems. Favorites like “Palomino” and “The Re-Arranger” sounded so good that passers-by on Fifth Avenue stopped and formed their own crowd to enjoy the performance. Unfortunately, none of them bought tickets.
