For those of you who like your punk fast and dirty like grandma used to make, Jay Reatard is playing at the Casbah tonight. Helping blow the roof off the place will be fellow punkers Cheap Time, as well as San Diego’s very own The Sess, who are part of Single Screen Records’ batting-a-thousand roster of awesome local bands.

Those cut from a more sensitive cloth can go check out Jason Reeves at Soma tonight, who will happily help you relive the painful memory of every girl who, for one reason or another, just didn’t feel like dating you anymore. Jon McLauglin will be opening.

Interview: Chris Eaton of Rock Plaza Central

Rock Plaza Central recently played San Diego’s Beauty Bar in support of Are We Not Horses?, and lead man Chris Eaton kindly agreed to do an interview. He answered our questions by email while immersed in recording demos for the band’s as-yet-untitled upcoming release. Eaton and his band have been called “stars in waiting” by Rolling Stone and Are We Not Horses received high marks from Pitchfork Media, so we’re pleased to pick his brain. In addition to being one of the most creative songwriters working today, Eaton is also known for two novels, The Inactivist and The Grammar Architect (a “cover” of a Thomas Hardy book).

The North by North Park Music Conference is a one day music event, which will debut on August 2, 2008. Starting at 10am, all conference registrants will learn about the music business during panel discussions, workshops and demo review sessions. NXNP will feature speakers who have been involved in local, regional, and national music. Following the workshops, NXNP will showcase over 100 musical acts from Southern California, in 14 venues in San Diego, California.
