Contest: Win Tickets to See Sondre Lerche at the Belly Up on 6/30

Listen: Sondre Lerche – “Private Caller”
Listen: Sondre Lerche – “Domino”

Sondre Lerche just released his self-titled seventh album on June 7, and in a publicity blitz, he’s performed for KEXP, KCRW, KFOG, WNKU, Daytrotter, and others. Now, the Norwegian singer/songwriter is heading to San Diego.

The Los Angeles Times has called Lerche “one of the most talented names in contemporary pop” with “a live performance that should not be missed,” and that’s why we’re super excited to be offering two pairs of tickets to see him at the Belly Up on June 30.

In anticipation of the Belly Up show — which will mark the end of Lerche’s U.S. tour — check out the video and two streaming tracks (above). For your chance to win a pair of tickets, simply comment below and include your email address in the form (your email won’t be visible to the public). The two winners will be selected at random and contacted on June 29.

MP3s: The Midwinters – Sometimes EP

To keep you occupied until they release their second EP, San Diego’s The Midwinters have released their second EP. It’s a little confusing, we know, but that’s not important. What is important is that The Midwinters have released a three-song live collection called Sometimes, which you can download for free (along with Hinges, their first studio EP) on Bandcamp.

The band is currently finishing up the recording process for its second studio EP. The proper follow-up to Hinges — which, to our knowledge, does not yet have a title — should be completed in July. While The Midwinters are busy trying to think of a name, you can check out Sometimes, which was recorded at the Belly Up last year during the Hinges release party.

There Will Be ‘Blood’

When people use the words “dance” and “trip” in the same sentence, it’s usually to describe my clumsy, ill-advised attempts to bust a move at Booty Basement. But thankfully, there’s now a much more exciting — and less embarrassing — reason to use those words together.

On May 21, Yeasayer will bring their dancey, trippy stylings to the Belly Up. The Brooklyn six-piece is still flying high after the release of its stunning sophomore album, Odd Blood, which earned the band a place of honor on Owl and Bear’s Best of 2010 list. Continue reading…

Last Tuesday night, Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino, a.k.a. Mr. On-Your-Girlfriend’s-List) entertained a sold-out crowd at the Belly Up Tavern with a mix of comedy and music. The multi-talented actor/writer/rapper opened up for himself, performing a 20 minute stand-up routine before launching into an impressive set of serious hip-hop. Check out the photos below…
