Juno award-winning Canadian songwriter Sam Roberts stopped by the Casbah last week.

Sam Roberts is touring to support his new album, Lo-Fantasy, which was produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth. The band sounds like a dancier, more lighthearted version of Wilco; Sam Roberts’ voice is even reminiscent of Jeff Tweedy’s.

Roberts kicked off his set with “Shapeshifter,” Lo-Fantasy‘s high opener, and got the crowd dancing. Then, the band changed the show’s feel with the darker, groovier “Let It In,” from 2011’s Collider, and the rockabilly-flavored “Fixed to Run.” Roberts closed his set with his Canadian #1 hit “Them Kids.” Seattle’s Kris Orlowski opened the show.
