Video: Wild Flag – “Romance”

So, listen. This is normally where we’d tell you that Wild Flag just put out the video for “Romance,” the first single off their self-titled debut. We’d also let you know that the band is comprised of Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss of the legendary Sleater-Kinney, Mary Timony of Helium, and Rebecca Cole of The Minders. We might even tell you that the video was directed by Tom Scharpling, host of The Best Show.

But none of that matters. Well, it does matter, but it’s not as important as this: Wild Flag’s new album is incredible. Not only does it capture everything that fans of Sleater-Kinney have sorely missed since that band’s 2006 breakup, it takes that formula and tweaks it with just enough surprises — courtesy of Timony and Cole, we presume — that the end result is one of the freshest, most accomplished, and goddmamn rocking-est albums of the last decade. That the supergroup pulled off such a feat is no surprise, but it doesn’t lessen the impact of Wild Flag’s pitch-perfect rock knocking you in the ass like one of Brownstein’s patented high kicks.

So yeah, we like Wild Flag. Watch the video, then go see them at the Casbah on November 1.
