The people at Bring on the Bright Lights sure have been busy. Since establishing the event series in October — of which Owl and Bear is a co-sponsor — the concert organizers have added some much-needed excitement to the San Diego music scene and succeeded in making 4th & B notable for something other than ’80s cover bands and whatever “HUNKS the Show” is. Indie-rock veterans Nada Surf headlined San Diego’s Bring on the Bright Lights concert series on Saturday night at 4th & B in support of their seventh studio album, The Stars are Indifferent to Astronomy. Following opening acts Republic of Letters, Cuckoo Chaos, and The Soft Pack (all of San Diegan droning descent), Nada Surf graced the stage with the double whammy of humility and assuredness that often eludes indie performances.
