Album Review: Lou Reed & Metallica – ‘Lulu’

Lulu, the new collaboration between Lou Reed and Metallica, opens with a sparsely strummed acoustic guitar, Reed’s distinct voice, and a question: Will this misaligned collaboration surprise with unexpected merit? Once James Hetfield enters with his amplified chin-rock croon over a wall of guitars turned up to eleven and Reed sings the charming lyric “I would cut my legs and tits off when I think of Boris Karloff,” you have your answer. Video: The Felice Brothers – “Fire at the Pageant”

New York’s The Felice Brothers are currently touring behind Celebration, Florida, their fourth album. The band’s brand of foot-stomping folk is more expansive this time around, adding synth and primitive drum beats to their guitar, violin, and accordion foundation.

The tour, aptly-named “Celebration, Tourida” includes a stop at the Casbah on October 30. The band will be joined by Old Crow Medicine Show vocalist/banjoist/steel guitarist Gill Landry. Full list of tour dates is below…
